New Backpack, New Lunchbox, Same Amazing You

by Lynn Evans on August 12, 2026

There is a very specific kind of chaos that arrives in mid-August, and if you have kids, you know exactly what I'm talking about. Suddenly there are school supply lists, mystery shoe sizes, and a group text with other parents that has gone from silent to unreadable in the span of about four days.

If you don't have kids, congratulations, you may skip this paragraph — although I'd argue the "summer's over, time to get organized" feeling hits all of us this time of year regardless.

The Back-to-School Season Is a Parent Reset Too

Everyone talks about back-to-school as a kid milestone, but nobody mentions that it's also the moment a lot of us quietly reboot our own routines. New planner, renewed gym intentions, a sudden urge to meal prep like we're running a small restaurant. It's giving New Year's Resolutions, just in August, and honestly with better weather.

I like to use this reset moment for the stuff that's easy to deprioritize the rest of the year — restocking things I actually need instead of just replacing what runs out. That includes my underwear drawer, which by August has usually been through an entire summer of pool days, road trips, and questionable laundry consistency.

Building a Routine That Includes You

This is the season I restock my Lyra 3-Pack specifically, because a fresh set feels like such a small but real act of taking care of myself amid a schedule that's about to get a lot more demanding. Comfortable, reliable, one less thing to think about during a week when the mental load is already at capacity.

A Note on Cycle Tracking Before the School Year Starts

If your cycle has been irregular over the summer thanks to travel, schedule shifts, or just general life chaos, back-to-school season is a genuinely good moment to get back into a tracking rhythm before the calendar fills up with practices, projects, and parent-teacher conferences. Knowing roughly where you are in your cycle makes it so much easier to plan around the weeks you know you'll want extra rest or extra patience.

●      Pick one tracking method (app, calendar, whatever sticks) and commit for one full cycle before judging it.

●      Set a recurring reminder to restock supplies rather than waiting until you're down to your last pair.

●      Block 15 minutes a week that's just for you — not errands, not kid logistics, just you.

The Takeaway

The kids get new backpacks. You deserve a fresh start too, even if yours looks like clean laundry and a slightly more realistic to-do list. Ease into the season instead of sprinting into it — there's plenty of school year left.
